A dynamic and fascinating course designed to introduce the principles of interior design to those with an interest in all things design. 

 

Below is a guide as to what to expect from the course.

Week 1. What is Interior Design? Elements of Interior Design. Principles of Interior Design. Interior Design styles.
To do: Find an interior space example where you find the 7 elements & 5 principles in your image!
Think about a space you want to re-create in your home for next week!
Resources needed
Computer & access to Google.
Week 2. Colour. How colour makes us feel in a space. How colour creates moods. Colour schemes. Colour theory.
To do: Develop your colour scheme. Find your inspiration for your space. Start thinking about your concept for your design-this can be a feeling you want for your space.
Resources needed: A Computer & access to Google.
Week 3. Materials & Finishes. Textures and Patterns.
To do: Think about the flooring, walls, fabrics, carpets, curtains, blinds, window poles and the finishes you want from those in your space. Think? Is it a cosy space or a practical space-finishes to an interior space creates how a room will feel!
Resources needed: A computer & access to Google.
Week 4
Furniture, lighting & Accessories. Types of furniture and finishes. Lighting choices. Accessorising is everything!
To do: Begin your sample/materials board by gathering your materials, finishes, furniture and accessories.
Resources needed: A computer & access to Google.
Week 5 Sample boards. Mood boards.
To do: Create your very own mood board/Inspiration board for your interior space with the help of your inspiration and concept ideas. This should give you a vision for what your space should feel like.
Need: A computer & access to a printer, paper, scissors & pritt sticks A large A1 board.
Week 6
Spatial Planning & Bubble diagrams. How to measure a space & how to use a scale rule. Set up your drawing board.
To do:
Learn how to draw a floor plan. Bubble diagrams for your space. Play around with spatial planning and visual what you want from this space.  Measure your interior design space at home.
Resources needed: Drawing boards, measuring tape, Pencils, erasers, set square, masking tape, Paper, Scale rule & Scissors.
Week 7
Floor & room plans. Furniture layout.
To do: Draw your space. Place your furniture in your design.
Resources needed: Drawing boards, measuring tape, Pencils, erasers, set square, masking tape, Paper, Scale rule & Scissors.
Week 8 Your final Interior Design creation.
To do: Complete your Interior Design project. Finish your drawing, materials & mood boards Lay out your design.
Resources needed: Drawing boards, measuring tape, Pencils, erasers, set square, masking tape, Paper, Scale rule & Scissors.

The course will run from Tuesday 28th  March 7.00 to 9.00
