Aim Of The Module

The purpose of this award is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence in principles, practice and techniques applicable to the grooming of various breeds of dogs and the running of a grooming salon.

Learning Outcomes Of Level 6 Animal Grooming 6N6226

Learners will be able to:

• Explain key theoretical business concepts associated with running a grooming business
• Evaluate how the grooming business is run and the steps needed to set up the business and the daily running of the business
• Appreciate the importance of patience and a positive attitude in dog grooming, showing knowledge of different approaches required for different breeds
• Participate effectively in dealing with animals that are aggressive, nervous or have health problems and the best techniques for doing so.
• Demonstrate advanced techniques used in the grooming of various breeds of animal to include
  trimming, styling and clipping
• Develop knowledge of common health problems associated with animals
• Develop knowledge of skin and coat disorders and to include recognising, as a groomer, where routine grooming, parasite control or proper diet may prevent these complications from reoccurring, and the effects of giving inappropriate or incorrect advice
• Participate effectively in the use of a variety of dog grooming equipment for particular animals and for their situation
• Explain why different equipment may be used for different breeds, dogs or by different individual groomers
• Explain after care instructions to owners and the need where necessary to refer owners to other animal care industry professionals.

Examination fee of €20 is payable for non medical card holders for certification of the course. If you have a valid medical card you will be exempt from the examination fee but a copy of this must be emailed on application to [email protected]
